Larger Design Gallery Showcases More
Custom Home Looks, Trends

Romanelli & Hughes has been Central Ohio’s premier custom home builder for over 50 years, and our newly created design gallery is a bright and spacious celebration of our company’s tradition of exceptional craftsmanship.

Classic finishes combine with sleek, modern looks and the latest color palettes in the new Design Gallery, enabling buyers and designers to view the world of custom options we have to offer.

The new Design Gallery is located at our company headquarters in Westerville, Ohio. More than twice the size of our former design studio, the new gallery has specialized areas for bathroom and kitchen fixtures, woodwork and flooring as well as exterior materials.

Everything Custom Home Buyers Could Dream of-Under One Roof!

An incredible variety of kitchen and bath hardware gleams within brightly lit showcases, and materials such as tile and stone are expertly arranged according to customization level, style and color. Design Gallery Executive Director Kristen DuChemin says the larger open space has an increased capacity to showcase more products, enabling more design teams to work simultaneously. The larger gallery layout will inspire our custom home buyers and make their design experience a real treat.

Design Gallery Reflects Ideas for the Whole House

“The basic intention for the expansion,” Kristen explains, “was to create additional capacity for more designers to work with clients and to showcase a greater variety of materials in a more organized, clean way.”

Kristen describes the new space as “A classic, fresh and clean look. The walls are a light color with elements of black; a good canvas upon which to showcase all of our amazing custom home materials.”

This type of clean classic space, along with painstaking organization of materials, helps home buyers to envision how each room can be pulled together. iPads will be installed throughout the space to help buyers more efficiently choose from all the latest in materials and trends, and to pull up photographs of various materials in completed projects.

Desert Color Trends Dominate

Kristen comments that desert tones are coming back as color trends for kitchen and bath, in soft contrast to the stark black and white combinations of years past. Green, ochre and blush have made a comeback, and they’re strikingly beautiful against the softer flooring colors, more muted brown and gray wood tones that are also trending in new custom homes today.

“Trends in flooring materials are moving toward wider planks and lighter colors of brown and gray,” says Kristen. In contrast, several years ago, dark wood was more popular, but stark colors such as bright white and dark wood tend to show stains and dust, whereas lighter colors and muted whites are more forgiving.

Vision and Luxe Materials Make for Expressive Living Spaces

Kristen and the design staff have created areas in the gallery for each material category and use. Hundreds of kitchen and bath tiles are stored in display drawers, with samples set out on top of the display cabinets for easy viewing. Flooring, exterior materials and woodwork/cabinetry each have their own area, with wall displays and large photos of completed projects for reference. And in the center of the room, large meeting tables provide space to spread out samples and discuss themes.

Indeed, home buyers and designers can compare tile and woodwork colors and exterior materials in an open, light, bright atmosphere that mimics the feeling of a work room in a new custom home. Kristen shows off drawers full of gorgeous tile samples: mosaic, porcelain, glass, slate, marble, travertine, even metal and cement!

Outdoor Themes

“The custom home design experience usually begins with exterior materials,” Kristen says. A variety of brick, stone, metal and stucco is displayed on the walls at one end of the design gallery.

Of course, photographs throughout the space help illustrate the final product. “We have the best materials for indoor and outdoor designs,” she adds. “Romanelli & Hughes homes are not restricted to just a few exterior materials, and the variety and quality of our exteriors sets us apart from other home builders.”

Many Ways to Design and Stay Safe

We know buyers of luxury custom homes often like to visit our spec homes. We use strict COVID-19 protections for visitors to our spec homes around Central Ohio. All can be viewed upon appointment and include Inverness Place in New Albany, The Cove in Westerville and Verona in Powell, a luxury home neighborhood in Delaware County’s Olentangy School District, featured in the 2016 BIA Parade of Homes.
